Made for More
The God of immeasurably more at work within us
The year my word was “more,” I had Ephesians 3:20 in mind.
The God who can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.
I wanted to notice the more of God—
His power
His presence
His work in the ordinary
I just didn’t realize how much I would need Him.
By the time that word began to unfold in my daily life, I had reached the point where I was certain I could not do one more thing—and heaven help the person who asked me to.
More patience.
More time.
More help.
Life felt full of requests, responsibilities, and the quiet pressure to keep everything moving.
And yet, somewhere in that place of exhaustion, the Lord began to shift what I noticed.
The word more was not meant to point to my capacity.
It was meant to point to His.
The God who can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine began showing me something I had not seen before.
My responsibilities had not changed.
But my perspective began to.
The more I noticed Him—His character, His power, His presence—the more I realized that the more I needed most was not more strength from me, but more of God.
In Christ, I was actually made for more.
That year, I watched an artist paint those words on a wall at school—slowly, letter by letter.
I had chosen my word months before.
But God, in His kindness, let me watch the reminder take shape right in front of me.
Made for More
Scripture tells us something remarkable about who we are.
“For we are His handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
— Ephesians 2:10
We are not accidents.
We are not merely surviving the days we’ve been given.
We are His workmanship.
Created with purpose.
Created with intention.
Created for the good works God Himself prepared.
We were always made for more than surviving.
More Than Comparing, Competing, and Criticizing
The world trains us to measure ourselves against one another.
But the kingdom of God calls us to something richer.
We are made for connection and community—
to love one another, encourage one another, and build one another up.
More Than Worry
Jesus invites us to look at the birds of the air.
“They neither sow nor reap nor store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them… Are you not much more valuable than they?”
— Matthew 6:26
We were never meant to live consumed by worry.
We are made to worship the One who provides.
The One who clothes us in righteousness.
More Than Pretending and Performing
So much of life pressures us to prove ourselves.
To perform.
To justify.
To appear like we have it all together.
But the cross speaks a better word.
It is finished.
Christ has already accomplished what we never could—
living the life we could not live and fulfilling God’s plan of redemption in full.
Even Our Weakness Holds More
The gospel does something unexpected with weakness.
Instead of hiding it, God redeems it.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:9
Paul responds with words that still surprise us:
“I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
Our weakness becomes the very place where the strength of Christ is revealed.
The God of Immeasurably More
And then Paul reminds us of something breathtaking:
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory…”
— Ephesians 3:20
More than we imagine.
More than we could accomplish.
More than our strength could ever produce.
Because the power at work in us is not ours.
It is His.
More Than the Roles We Carry
You are more than a job title.
More than an employee.
More than a parent.
More than the responsibilities others see.
You are His handiwork, created in Christ Jesus.
So magnify that truth.
Magnify the Father who sent His Son.
Obey Him—not out of pressure, but as the overflow of who you already are in Christ.
Rely on the One who created you, calls you, and equips you.
Enjoy fellowship with God and His people.
Enjoy the freedom found in Christ—
freedom from comparing, competing, and criticizing.
The More We Were Made For
May the truth of who we are in Christ propel us to
Magnify
Obey
Rely
Enjoy
God each and every day.
Somewhere along the way that year, I noticed something surprising.
The God who created time
was never in a hurry.
The Holy Spirit
had already been sent as my Helper.
The patience I thought I lacked
was something He was faithfully growing.
The God who can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine was at work all along.
And then today, I sat in a room where loss was named
and hope was quietly held.
No more tears.
No more death.
No more mourning or crying or pain.
No more sin.
The God of immeasurably more
will one day speak two simple words
that will undo every sorrow:
no more.
Until then,
oh for grace to trust Him more.
